QuestionI have had my Severe Macaw for a year she is 20 years old and she has itched and picked her nose here and there, i was worried at first but it seemed to be a once in a while thing, but it does seem to be getting worse all of a sudden. I have another bird he is a Maxamillian Pionus. I have been reading lately that dander from other birds can cause Macaws to have allergies and aven asthma. I dont have very much money so I cant take her to a vet unless an emergency. She is molting right now also and she is eating fine and drinking plenty. I dont know if its my other bird cause he is molting also. They both get baths once a week and they seem to be fine otherwise. Does my bird have something serious? Should I be really concerned?
AnswerHi, Miranda. Thanks for posting.
It could very well be allergies, but because it could also be other things, I recommend you seek avian veterinary advice. Only a bird vet (exotic animal vet) can run the necessary tests to determine what is going on with your Severe. The molting process can be stressful for a parrot, so it could be related.
Most vets allow a person to make arrangements to pay the bill if they can't pay on the date of service.
