sensitive ears/lathargic

My dog has been a barking machine lately and we are not sure what is going on with her.  She barks at everything and anything that she can hear and it seems as though she can hear more then she used to.  She is a VERY good dog and we never have to walk her with a leash but in the last three days she will not listen to us either, and she ran onto the road yesterday which is NOT like her.  She is an 6 yr old jack russell.  She also seems very lathargic aswell. She normally LOVES to walk, but has not been into it in the last three days.  Any and all help appreciated!  Thanks so much.

Has she had vaccinations recently? Some dogs become lethargic and even reactive - especially after rabies vaccs. Any time there is a sudden change in behaviors, especially in a middle aged dog, my first thought is that there is something physical/medical going on. I'd get a complete physical, including bloodwork - including a tickborne disease panel and a 6 panel thyroid test. Sandy Case MEd CPDT www.positivelycanine.com
