Our new puppy, Vinny and his litter mate Sonny

Question
My family adopted our new pup, Vinny,  when he was 13wks.  His brother Sonny needed a forever home also, so my mother-in-law adopted him. We live a 1/2 mile away and are there often with Vinny. They were together in their foster constantly, even in the same crate to sleep.  When they get together now, all they do is bite and bark, they bare their teeth at each other and growl.  This goes on for hours on end.  I really don't think they do anything else but.  My husband and I are going away for a few days and we are leaving him with them.  Should I be concerned about their behavior together, and should I be concerned about a different pup when I leave him there for a few days? The last thing I want is an aggressive dog with 2 children in the house.

Answer
Hi Lori

Whatever problems there may be between them, it is unlikely to transfer aggression from dogs to children when away from the situation.

Are you sure they are not just playing roughly and noisily?

It does sound slightly worrying. Without seeing it I can't advise as I don't deal with aggression online.    Littermates can have quite fiery relationships as they are so similar in their experiences and also genetically - there is often no clear 'boss'.

If he were mine I would be inclined to board him somewhere else when I went away.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Best

Lucy
