Question
Our Labrador retriever whelped a dozen health pups on September 1. I was wondering when can they be introduced to the outside world .We have a new 10 by 10 pen outside, they have not had there first shots yet.

Answer
Hey Steve,   Congratulations!  Pups are about my most favorite thing in the world.
I vaccinate pups between 5 & 6 weeks.  The "outside world" isn't a problem, in and of itself, but I wouldn't take them anywhere before I got vaccine in them.   Vaccine is available on line & at local farm/home stores.   They don't recommend vaccinating for Leptospirosis in the first round.  So if you order vaccine, get the 5-way & not the 7-way.  Having said that, I've given the 7-way to 6 week old pups lots of times with no problems.  So, if that's all your local farm/home store has in stock, it will probably be OK.  Now, I'm not a Veterinarian & I'm new at this question answering stuff, so take this for what it's worth.  When I was younger (way long time ago) we used to split a shot of vaccine between 2 pups to save money.
They need to be wormed too.  Outdoors, on the grass is a great place to get more worms & coccidia too.  I've found a good wormer for pups this age is the liquid type that seems to taste good (to the pups anyway) as they will lick the dose right off the spoon.   After that, when they're eating real good, I use a stronger wormer in their food.  You'll need to get them on heatrworm preventative soon also.
Hope this helps some, Steve,    Thanks for asking, Rob
