Dog snapped

Question
Hello. Very disappointing day. Family and I and of course our 13 year old lab went to the shelter and found a beautiful (140lb) 4 year old dog to adopt. Very sweet, obedient, gentle. When we went back to pick her up, worker there told us that the dog was great during th bath but went to bite her when she was microchipping him. seems the worker muzzled him and gave him a rabies shot then tryed to microchip him when the dog went to bite him. we are heartbroken, thought we could give this dog a great life. we have 4 children 9 and up. do you think we should go back for him or leave it be? thanks, mary

Answer
Hi, Mary,

Thanks for the question.

It's difficult for me to give you an answer. We have no idea what prompted the supposed attack, whether it really was an actual attack or just a warning "snap." And if the dog really did try to bite, we don't know why he felt he was being threatened: was the worker inexperienced and responsible for the behavior, was there another factor that maybe even he or she was unaware of.

I just can't give you an opinion without more information. Sorry,
