blending a chow chow and a jack russell

Question
I have a 10 year old Jack russell and my boyfriend has a 10 year old chow.  I lived at home with my father the last four years with my jack russell and he helped with his care a great deal during that time. My father recently passed and my boyfriend and I are going to buy my father's home where I reside now with my jack russell. I am worried about my dog's attitude toward the chow.  My dog hasnt lived with another dog since he was 2 years old.  That dog was a terrier-daschund mix.  Any tips on how the chow and my jack should meet?

Answer
I would let the dogs meet on neutral territory first, and for a while I'd be keeping them separate unless they are supervised, and start by doing side by side on-leash obedience, and parallel walking them on leash. A good in-person trainer may be able to help you by observing them and giving you more suggestions, especially if there seems to be tension between them.
