Pit bulls may have a reputation of being aggressive however they are not so different from most breeds of dogs. Most pit bulls are misunderstood by its nature, the truth is the owners are mostly responsible for its behavior. Pit bulls are friendly especially to the kids, they are loving and protective. Like all pets, you should train your pit bull when they are still a puppy as they also need the be well behaved from the start.

The same dog training procedure like the rest may apply to pit bulls, although the method to reach the end result may differ:

Be consistent on commands. Use the same commands on each of the moves for your dog i.e., sit, stay and heel. Be firm and show show your pit bull who that you are the master and eventually your pit bull will respect you. Be patient on repeating commands until they understand you.

Hand Signals. It is a great way to comunicate with your dog when you use hand signals. Try telling them each command then repeat the command with a hand signal, for example "Sit," point down your finger to the ground, and for "Stay," hold your palm open facing your dog. After a few times of repeating that, try hand signal and no more talking, you will be amazed with the result.

Body language. Learn your pit bull's body language like tail wagging, from side to side, is a sign that they want to play. You could command him that play will be right after the training.

Give treats to your pit bull. Always remember to treat your pit bull when they do a good job. Always give them a reward for following your commands. This will entice them to enjoy training and education more.

Address bad behavior properly. Pit bulls are very energetic, if they do something intolerable, address the bad behavior properly. If you catch them, nipping your throw pillow then take the pillow away from them with a "No" gesture. Dogs are smart pets so they know what you mean.

Socialization. Let your pit bull meet the neighborhood just after they are done with their scheduled canine vaccination shots. It is advisable that your dog become used to having people and other pets around. Socializing is very important as this will mold your dog's behavior with people and animals. If you do not do this, your pit bull may grow fearful of new animals and pets and become aggressive toward them.

Always let it exercise. Pit bulls have so much energy, so they need to release that to avoid engaging in destructive or aggressive behavior. Let your dog play inside or outside your house.

Dog training can establish recognition between you and your dog and who is the master and the pet. When you train a pit bull you should be firm and kind at the same time. Let him know when it is play time and when it is training time. When they are used to this environment then they will be a kind, loving and protective dog.
