Everything You Need To Know About Dog Training

Some dogs can be more trouble to train than other dogs. For example it’s good to start training puppies young but they are more energetic or hyper than older dogs. Dogs that are older may already have learned bad habits. However a person can still learn ways to train any dog in this article.

Be consistent. Set a schedule for your puppy. Take him out to the bathroom on regular occasions, and feed and walk him at the same time every day. Dogs thrive on consistency, and this way they are much easier to train. Always remember to offer praise when he follows the rules, and correct any mistakes that he makes.

If your dog is digging up your yard, they may be bored. The biggest cause of destructive behavior in dogs is boredom. Simply putting them out in a back yard does not necessarily mean they are getting exercise.

When training your dog for specific commands, be sure to use the exact same wording during everyday life as you do during training sessions. If you select “down” for “lie down”, use “down” every time you want the dog to lie down. Changing up the terminology can confuse your dog and interfere with training.

When working on teaching your dog a command, keep training sessions short. It is much better to train your dog for 5 minutes, 3 times a day, than all in one 15 minute session. This will keep your dog focused. Before your dog gets bored, end the session. This will keep him interested and wanting more.

Use your pet’s name often to reinforce familiarity. It is important that your dog knows its name well, so that you can gain their attention at a moment’s notice. Reinforce their name as a positive experience using it when calling for food, treats, walks, or any activity your dog enjoys. Refrain from using their name when you are angry, or they could learn to fear it.

Training a dog is easier if the pet is neutered or spayed. Unless you are breeding the animal, taking the hormones out of the equation will greatly calm your pet. Without the constant rush of hormones, a dog is much more docile and receptive to a leader. This will also help control the pet population which is a win-win situation.

Dogs can have an annoying habit of jumping up on you or company out of sheer excitement. An effective way to help your dog to learn that this is not a proper greeting is to gently place your hand on his chest, shove him away and firmly say “Off!” Then you can offer him a greeting by calling him back at your invitation for a friendly pat on the head!

So, now are you ready to get to work? Hopefully, the ideas in this article gave you some helpful ideas to train your dog! A well-trained pet is ideal. It takes time to do just that! But, it will be worth it when you look into those lovable eyes that are eager to follow your every command or the sweet little puppy that grows up to be the perfect companion!
