How to Get Rid of Fleas and Ticks on Your Dog for Up to 30 Days

Fleas, ticks and other biting pests can make your dog miserable. Even if he's an indoor dog, people or other pets can bring home fleas and ticks without knowing it. And once there's a flea infestation in your home, both you and your furry friend will know it. Female fleas can lay up to 50 eggs a day, and it's very common that dogs can pick up fleas on daily walks, bathroom trips and other short jaunts. In fact, even if you only see "a few fleas" on your dog, there are hundreds that you don't see - even flea eggs can hide in carpet and rug fibers throughout your home. Serious flea infestation requires serious medicine - like Frontline Plus.

Treating the Problem - Under the Surface

Many over-the-counter flea remedies, such as shampoos, flea combs, and flea collars can be effective at giving your pet much-needed relief from the biting. However, you may also want to consider Frontline Plus - a topical treatment which works to treat the flea and tick problem at the source. One application between your dog's shoulder blades can treat them for up to a month by killing fleas, flea eggs and larvae. Essentially, it breaks the flea reproduction cycle when used each month and gives your dog a break from the aggravation of these biting, crawling pests, often within 24 hours. You'll likely notice quite a difference in your dog's behavior (meaning that he's happier and much more energetic) after just one day.

How Flea Preventatives Work

I did a great deal of research in learning about different types of topical flea medicine. I discovered that Frontline Plus works by letting the medicine be absorbed in the dog's sebaceous glands, which are under the skin. These glands act like miniature reservoirs to store the flea medicine. Even fleas and ticks that burrow deep between your dog's hair won't stand a chance. The same medicine can also be used to treat sarcoptic mites, biting lice and mosquitoes. Better yet, it's waterproof, which means your dog can run through the rain or play in the sprinkler without you worrying that the medicine will wash off or be diluted.

Flea Problems - Solved

Many pet owners alternate between two different flea medicines in case the fleas build up an immunity to one or the other. However, I've used Frontline Plus continually without any problems. If you've just adopted a new puppy or dog from the shelter, it's very likely that they'll have fleas even if you don't see any. The good news is that Frontline Plus can be used on dogs as young as eight weeks, so your puppy can be flea-free in no time. It's for all these reasons, plus the health and well being of my dogs that I continue to use and recommend this flea treatment. Over time and when used regularly every month, you'll find that flea bites, itching and scratching will quickly be a thing of the past.
