Simple Chicken Coop

Chicken coops are becoming more and more popular these days. People are generally much more concerned with what they are putting inside their bodies. Animal welfare is also on the increase so people do not like the idea of chickens being cooped up in tiny boxes all their lives which no option to ever roam or move about. A home chicken coop is the perfect answer to these worries.

After receiving your chicken coop plans the first thing you should do is draw out your own ideas on a different piece of paper. It is important to get all your ideas down on paper and to stick to them. Make sure you have bought all the necessary materials you will need before you start - you do not want to get half way through the process and then realize you are missing something important.

Ventilation is very important with chicken coops. The ventilation will keep the chickens cool in the summer months. You must also consider the winter months because the chickens will get cold - make sure you build the coop in enough natural light to keep them suitably warm. Electric light sources are sometimes used in the chicken coops to help keep the chickens warm and to persuade them to lay eggs.

The chickens will need to be fed and watered so you should always plan the coop out to provide a set out space for this area. Chickens tend to make a mess when they eat and foul the area so you do not want this to interfere with the rest of the coop area. Chicken feeders should also be set at a height where they have to stretch their necks up to reach the food. This will stop the chickens from trying to grab at the feeders with their feet.

You may want to dampen down the colors on your chicken coop design. The finished coop should be able to fit in with it's surroundings without looking to much out of place. After all, you do not want the neighbors to begin grumbling between themselves about how the coop ruins the look of the street and neighborhood.

There are two decisions to make if you do decide on keeping chickens - will you buy a chicken coop or will you construct your own chicken coop. If you make your own chicken coop you will almost certainly save money and be able to put your own personal touch on the coop. Buying the coop will save time but you will be stuck with someone else's design.
