In this article, I'm going to teach you the quickest and easiest methods on how to stop a dog from digging in yard and flower beds. I know you've spent a great deal of time and money making your yard look great, and it can be very frustrating to have it destroyed by your "best friend"! But, with my guidance, I promise I'll get you back to loving your pooch, AND your yard again.

So, let's get started on solving this annoying problem, shall we?

You've probably already figured out that your dog is not destroying your yard and flower beds to make you mad. You have probably also found out that yelling, hitting, and punishing just make things worse. You need to find out WHY your dog is digging before we can come up with a solution that will work.

Do you have a canine breed that is just a natural-born digger? If you have a terrier or other hunting dog, they WILL dig. You can't stop them. So, give them a suitable place to dig where they won't get in trouble or wreck your yard. A sand box will work.

Is your doggy getting enough exercise? Is he being walked enough? Played with enough? Are you and the family spending enough time with him? If not, that unused energy may be coming out in the form of unwanted digging behavior.

Is your dog of mating age? If so, consider spaying or neutering for the sake of your sanity and the beauty of your lawn.

Are there other critters digging around in your garden? If so, your dog may be hunting for moles or rabbits. Go to your local home and garden center for ways to rid your yard of these creatures.

Consider burying some small balloons in the most likely digging spots. A smart and humane way of letting them know your flower bed is not to be dug up!

If that doesn't work, gather up some of their poop and put it near their favorite digging spots. I know, pretty gross, but it does work. Dogs won't dig near their own poop. Why? I don't know. But hey, extra fertilizer...
