You've probably already figured out that your dog is not destroying your yard and flower beds to make you mad. You have probably also found out that yelling, hitting, and punishing just make things worse. You need to find out WHY your dog is digging before we can come up with a solution that will work.

Do you have a canine breed that is just a natural-born digger? If you have a terrier or other hunting dog, they WILL dig. You can't stop them. So, give them a suitable place to dig where they won't get in trouble or wreck your yard. A sand box will work.

Is your doggy getting enough exercise? Is he being walked enough? Played with enough? Are you and the family spending enough time with him? If not, that unused energy may be coming out in the form of unwanted digging behavior.
