Ive Got A Bunny

I have got a bunny, a small breed; color is white with black spots and black eyes. Someone did not want it so she gave it to me via her relative, a friend of mine. At that time I already had several other rabbits; that’s why I was given this one.

My kids asked for a pet, dog or cat, for several years. But they never allowed getting one due to some circumstances. And they never considered a bunny for a pet. But a year ago my husband decided to start breeding rabbits and sell them, some for pets and some for meat.

Some people like rabbit meat; it is the cleanest and most nutritional white meat and good for special diets. It has lowest level of cholesterol and fat comparing to chicken, turkey, beef, and pork. It has also highest level of proteins.

When our first rabbits grew up enough to have babies, they had smaller litters, so we did not have many of new bunnies. When they were growing up, one of them became a favorite pet for my daughter. It is a male rabbit, his mother is New Zealand breed and father is Californian. This new bunny happened to be more like his father, just his ears, nose, feet, and tail is lighter than his father’s. My daughter named him Frisky. He is very active and very funny when he is jumping and sniffing around. Sometimes he starts digging the ground like a dog. My daughter uses a leash to run him around.

I never thought before that having a rabbit for a pet can be that easy. When my daughter is in school or is busy with her other works, she puts her bunny into a cage. Rabbits are quiet, don’t make any disturb to neighbors, don’t bark or meow. If they are used to hands, they are good to carry them around and feeling their warm fur. Beside Frisky we have got three other bigger litters from different rabbit moms. When they became two month old, we started selling them. The white rabbit with black spots, that I mentioned on the very beginning of this article, became a mom of one of those litters. She gave birth to two black and four white/black bunnies.

When we started selling those bunnies, I was surprised that the most wanted were those small white with black spots bunnies. My daughter was very happy that all our bunnies are sold for pets, not meat. I personally like that, too.
