How Diet Affects Female Dog Fertility

A pregnant dog can be like a pregnant human being. Its health requirements will be slightly more delicate than a non-pregnant dog. And getting pregnant will also require some effort. The good nutrients need to be added to the diet while the ones that are considered harmful should be strictly prohibited.

Balanced diet for a healthy puppy. When you are to feed your female dog, you need to make sure that the food is healthy. But, you also need to make sure that there are right amounts of everything. Of course, proteins, carbohydrates, other minerals, vitamins, and amino acids need to be included in adequate amounts.

Likewise, adding fats to the diet of your pet will not be entirely a damaging act to do. There are benefits of introducing fats and oils to your pet. Add meat and fiber sources to your dog's diet as well.

Feed the right type of dog food and avoid giving them leftovers.

Enough water. You would want to make sure that your pet is well hydrated. Refill water bottles that your dog drinks from regularly. Paying close attention to these water bottles will be necessary when you are living in a place with very warm to hot conditions as water tends to evaporate pretty quickly.

At these conditions, there may also be an increase in the rate by which potentially harmful organisms grow in the water. So, make sure that you replace the water and at the same time clean the water container as often as you deem it necessary.

Other liquids. Aside from making sure that there is enough water for your pet, you might also want to vary what it drinks. Milk is a good alternate. This will help keep your pet well hydrated. Plus, it will provide the necessary nutrients to initiate and maintain a healthy pregnancy.

However, take note that you cannot substitute milk for water. Remember that your pet will need the regular amount of water that it drinks in every day. But, it will greatly benefit if you will add milk to its diet.

Add more calcium. This can be easily provided by milk that you will add to the hydration plans for your dog. But, calcium is also available from other food sources.

Calcium, together with phosphorus will help in the healthy growth and development of the bones and the teeth.

Fats and oils. As said, fats and oils are not necessarily dangerous for your dog when they are introduced at the right levels. They are even essential to maintain the right body temperature. Digestion might also be better when there are adequate amounts of fats and oils in the diet of your pet.

Furthermore, essential amino and fatty acids help create a better functioning of the main organs of the body.

Right time. In addition to considering the components of your pet's diet, you also need to pay attention to when will be the best time to feed it. Meals should be given at least twice a day with regular intervals. You may serve treats in between the main meals for the day.
