Most Effective Dog Training Tips

Training your dog can take you weeks, months or even years to see significant changes in their behavior. But, there are a few ways by which you can hasten the results in your dog.

Have more patience. From the start, you should keep in mind that dog training never produces breakthroughs and notable results just overnight. Even the best dog trainers in the world will have to sweat it out and give some of their time in training the dog day after day.

Your first few tries to teach your dog when to sit down, stand, etc. as you instruct them might not be fruitful after a few hours. Make sure that you keep your cool and just be consistent with what you are doing. Eventually, when things go well, all your efforts and your patience will be paid off.

Know your dog's intelligence. Each dog will have a different speed in learning what is being taught to them. This can be attributed to the level of intelligence that the dog has. Usually, this varies based on the breed of the dog.

You will need to have more patience when you know you have a dog that is expected to learn slower. But if you want, choose what breed of dog you will have. Make that simple research and identify the breeds of dogs that are suitable for you.

Don't hurt your dog. In disciplining your dog and teaching it to follow your instructions, make sure that you do not hit or strike it. Remember not to push your dog to do things that it cannot perform even after several tries.

Hitting your dog might be a form of negative reinforcement but it is not wise for you to use such type of discipline for your pet.

Adapt the routine to your dog. Trainers usually have a single principle when they train dogs. But also included in their training techniques is adapting the activities to the capabilities of the specific dog. This should also be your training method.

You should be able to determine if you may still continue training or if you will call it a day after several attempts. There are dogs that learn better if the training hours in a day are longer while there are dogs that will not learn anything regardless of the increase in amount of time in training. This can be attributed to the attention span that the dog has.

Then, it is also important for you to determine when the training time will be in relation to the feeding time. Most dogs will only respond when they are hungry and you are feeding them treats for every correct action. Therefore, dogs that are already full might not follow you as they are not interested in what you are feeding them.

Reward as necessary. When the dog behaves as you wanted or when it makes an action as how you taught it, you can reward it by giving it treats. Make sure that you give these treats in small amounts.
