These Small Parrots Make Good Pets

Plenty of people opt for the smaller parrot types because they don't have the space or the patience that is needed to own a large parrot.

The majority of small parrots that end up as pets fall under one of the mini macaw, conure or parakeet species.

Conure birds

Some conure birds have managed to spread to Mexico and the Caribbean Islands from Central and South America.

Depending on how well you care for it and what species you get these affectionate, playful and colorful parrots will live anywhere from 15 to 35 years.

They are social, active, playful parrots with sweet dispositions and are easy to train.

Although conures can be taught to mimic speech their words a usually unclear.

The majority of conures make good family pets and get along fine with children, but some of them will form a bond with just one person and won't allow anyone else near.

Mini macaws

Unlike the large macaws a mini macaw doesn't need a lot of space or attention, plus they are less expensive.

Most of them are relatively inexpensive and none of them need a great deal space.

They demand far less attention than the large parrots do, however they do need some socialization and entertainment every day.

They are a friendly parrot that is both intelligent and inquisitive and that make good family pets.

Parakeet birds

There is a large number of different types of parakeets, most of which are small to medium sized parrots with bright colored feathers and long pointed tails.

All parakeets are highly active birds that are on the go from morning to night. They are always hopping from perch to perch, playing with toys or chewing on something.

A parakeet bird is social, it is intelligent, it gets along with other birds and it are easy to tame.

They are fairly good at mimicking speech and they are quick to learn tricks.

Most parakeets are not too expensive and they are easy enough to care for.

All of these parrots make good pets without taking up too much room or costing a small fortune.
