How To Choose A Dog Breed That Suits Your Lifestyle

Advice for the dog lover or the budding dog lover on choosing the best type of dog breed to match both you and your lifestyle.

You are probably one of those dog lovers. Now you want to have your own little puppy or dog that will be your own best friend. You are so excited. You look like a little girl expecting her first doll that daddy will buy her from the toy store today. But suddenly you are stuck. You don抰 know what dog breed to choose.

In this article we will attempt to look at some of the so many breeds of dogs that we have around. Hopefully, you will be able to choose one that you like depending on its temperament and qualities. So, what are the different breeds we have? Let抯 look at them.

The Samoyed: This is a Russian working dog also known as Samayedskaya. Originally used as herd and guard dogs, it is still very useful for caring for families, pulling sleds and guarding homes. It is between 18 and 22 feet long and weighs 50-60 pounds. It comes mostly in shades of white and cream.

The English Foxhound: This is a breed that is the result of interbreeding among a number of dogs including the greyhound, the bulldog and a fox terrier. It is traceable back to the 16th century. Originally bred for fox hunting, it is also used nowadays as regular pet dogs. It is about 23 to 27 inches tall and weighs between 57 and 75 pounds and its coat comes in black, white, tan, bicolor and tricolor. It is smart, but is also easily distracted by fresh smells.

The Old English Sheepdog: This British breed nicknamed Bobtail belongs to the herding group of dogs. It weighs around 66 pounds and stands between 22 and 24 inches tall. It has a long fluffy coat that includes shades of white, gray, blue and grizzle. It is smart dog with an instinct to protect its family, which makes it great for a family dog.

The Briard: This French breed also known as Berger de Brie was bred about a thousand years ago as a shepherd dog. Weighing about 75 pounds, it is between 23 and 27 inches tall. Though it is prone to have hip dysplasia and progressive retinal atrophy, it doesn抰 need much exercising as such. It hasa long wavy coat that covers a dense undercoat that comes in shades of black and fawn.

The Tibetan Spaniel: This breed originating from Tibet and also known as Prayer Dog is an ancient non-sporting dog. Originally used as a companion nd a watch dog, it is a cute little dog weighing between 9 and 15 pounds and about 10 inches tall. It is a smart breed with a silky coat and is very good with other dogs, kids and cats.

These are just a few of the large number of breeds out there.
