Also called spoodles in Australia and cockerpoo in Sweden, Cockapoos are popular household pets not just in the United States but in other countries as well. Aside from the fact that they are low-shedding dogs, many people opt to go for this breed because of their outgoing and loving personality. But even if they are regarded as such, some unfortunate cockapoos end at dog shelters and later at the hands of new owners mostly because of insufficient or ineffective cockapoo training.

Cockapoo training will not end in vain only if owners or handlers know what training methods work best for their pet. There are actually various training methods available, in which, if used properly will definitely help dogs act appropriately whether in the privacy of their homes or under the watchful public. One of the training methods that is popular among dog lovers is the use of crate.

Contrary to the belief that using a crate is an act of being inhumane to a dog, you are actually doing your pet a favor by providing him a haven he can call his own. Dogs are den dwelling animals. In the wild, they used to seek dwellings in the caves to keep them safe from danger and from elements of weather. The den is their comfort zone and as much as possible, the keep their comfort zone really comfortable and clean. The same principle applies to crate. By providing a crate, you are giving your dog something he can call his own.

So how come a crate is beneficial in cockapoo training? As mentioned, dogs value their place and if they can avoid it, they will definitely not soil their crate. This is essential in potty training. Through this, a dog is trained to hold his bowel or bladder and wait until he is taken out to do his business. This will eventually help the dog develop potty schedule. Take note that the dog must be taken out after waking up in the morning, after eating or drinking, after play and other acitivities, when nervous or excited and before going to bed at night. The dog should not be confined inside the crate for extended period of time without allowing him to go out to potty.

The crate does not benefit cockapoo training only. It is also a great tool to keep your pet safe especially when traveling. When traveling by car, it is safer to place the dog inside the crate rather than using a leash and collar that can strangle the cockapoo should he decide to jump to chase something that caught his attention. Apart from that, most airlines require that dogs must be placed inside the crate when traveling by air.
