How To Train My Dog

Is it hard to train dogs?

Like potty training, dog training is something you will have to be consistent with, and starts immediately as soon as your dog begins interacting with you. Training begins from day zero.

Correct training can only be accomplished if you master the fundamental training methods that will allow you to correct and redirect your dog appropriately.

Training begins from day zero, or day one if you prefer. If you have an adult dog to train, don't worry, they are very trainable. People tend to think that only puppies can be trained, but this is wrong because puppies only differ from adult dogs in their lack of previous training.

Keep your initial training sessions simple, don't use any tools like leashes or collars to enforce your dog's training. In the beggining he should associate training to you and not any tool you might use.

Let's see what are the basic methods:

?Basic simple training (http://www.obediencetraining-for-dogs.com/dogtraining/2010/07/17/how-to-train-dogs)

?Do your training following the principles of correction, prevention and redirection. All of this may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but it is quite easy to do it, as soon as we interiorize these simple techniques and apply them consistently.

?Trying to understand why your dog does what he does

?By understanding why your dog behaves in a certain way, you will be arming yourself with the right knowledge to properly train your dog. By using redirection, consistency and prevention correctly, you will be able to train some cool new tricks to your dog easily.

?Every order given to the dog must be performed correctly by him.

?When a dog performs a trick only sometimes, this usually means you haven't been consistent with him. When you give him an order, he has to do it no matter what. Don't let your dog disobey you at any time. You must always be on top of the pack's herarchy. If you tell your dog to sit, he must obey, period. Be consistent. And do the same to all other commands. If you're in your backyard playing with your dog, and he doesn't have a leash or anything you can use to quickly correct him, then don't say the command "come". Because you cannot "force" him to obey.

?Consistency

?This is of utmost importance. A behavior can only mean one thing, it's either good or bad. As an example, don't let your dog jump on you just because you're wearing dirty clothes. When you're in a suit or fancy dress you'll regret this. He won't see the difference between situations, and will become nervous and unstable because he won't know what to do.

?Another example is when you give your dog an old shoe to play, and later you realize that he has eaten your shoes collection. This happens more than often, and must be avoided at all costs. Remember, a shoe is a shoe, so be consistent and don抰 allow to chew 搒ome?shoes, because your dog won抰 tell the difference.

?Consistency can be measured by the amount of people who can interact with your dog's training. The fewer the better. Teach everyone that surrounds the dog in a daily basis how to interact with him. Your family must follow these rules or you will never have a consistent and well trained dog. When children are involved in your dog's training, consistency will be a lot harder to get.

?Consistency

?We've talked this over and over, but you must really be consistent to have good results with your dog's training. And this is valid for day-to-day interaction as well as 揻ormal training?and obedience commands.

?This is easier to introduce to your dog when he抯 still a puppy and in an off-leash situation, when you let him run around the house freely (almost). Don't worry about your dog becoming too much of a robot due to so much consistency. It won't happen, and your dog will get better and better at everyday's training.

?More consistency

?Yes, you must be consistent.
