How to Care for a Baby Bearded Dragon. Bearded dragons are tame, require minimal daily care and are an easy introduction to reptiles. Baby bearded dragons are found at most pet stores. Establish a routine with your baby bearded dragon right away so you and the bearded dragon will know what to expect and can become more comfortable with one another.

Things Needed

• 10+ gallon aquarium
• Pebbles or rabbit pellets
• Log
• Water dish
• Kitchen towel or rag
• Vegetables
• Calcium powder
• Vitamin D3 powder
• Mealworms
• Small crickets

Step 1

Create a habitat for the baby bearded dragon. Set up an aquarium (10+ gallon) with pebbles or rabbit pellets covering the bottom, a log or other object for the lizard to crawl on and a water source. Set up a heat lamp over the tank. The bearded dragon can climb on the log and bask in the warm light or hide under it and escape the heat to sleep.

Step 2

Offer the bearded dragon water daily. It may not immediately soak in the water or drink directly from it. If you don't see the bearded dragon use its water source after a couple days, place your reptile in a shallow pool of water inside a container and cover with a light kitchen towel or rag to keep it in the container, absorbing water through its skin. Leave the bearded dragon in the water for ten minutes. Repeat every few days, until you're sure your pet is drinking or soaking on its own.

Step 3

Offer finely chopped lettuce, carrots and other vegetables (except onions, broccoli and cauliflower) every few days. Sprinkle calcium powder and vitamin D powder over a few meal worms and small crickets. According to the Bearded Dragon Guide, you should feed the baby bearded dragon in small frequent meals so as to avoid overfeeding which can cause paralysis and death.

Step 4

Remove feces from the tank on a weekly basis. Replace rabbit pellets or wash pebbles in water and a mild soap every few weeks.

Step 5

Take the bearded dragon out of the tank daily and provide a safe area for it to run around in. If possible give it things such as plants that it can climb and roam around.
