Why Betta Fish Make Great Pets

Betta fish are truly great pets to have and are like no other fish around. They do not demand the high maintenance of a dog or cat and they’re much more fun than a reptile like a snake or lizard. They're bright, colorful, and are moving around all of the time. A beautiful Betta fish can be like a permanent flower in your home.

With everyone worrying about their finances nowadays, the humble Betta fish is just about the most economical and inexpensive pet you can have. Betta fish do not require a huge tank full of expensive equipment in order to be healthy and as happy. They can do very well in a several gallon bowl or vase, just as long as you are ready to do small water changes every once in a while.

The extremely low maintenance of the Betta fish is what draws people towards it. Unlike most aquarium fish that need an entire aquarium set up, complete with heaters, skimmers, chemical water maintenance, filters and a whole host of other expensive equipment just to keep them alive, the Betta fish requires little more than a bowl, clean water and someone to feed it every day. It would certainly enjoy the whole nine yards of aquatic glory, however all Betta fish will live quite happily in a fish bowl with fresh water and some good swimming room.

Bettas do need some room to spread their fins but they do not grow more than a couple of inches long and some don't even get that big. Bettas are also quite hardy and do not need specially treated water like salt water fish would.

The best thing about Bettas especially the males is the way they stare at you as you go about your day. You look back at them and you can almost see the wheels of their brains turning making them very friendly and social animals.

A Betta fish makes a wonderful pet for anyone of any age. You get to see life from a completely different point of view. And Bettas are incredibly graceful little fish, like a moving meditation in the water that you can sometimes feel transported to another world just gazing at them.
