Although the phrase “A dog is a man’s best friend” is a popular belief, and in many cases this is true; it is not always the case, many people are allergic to them or simply don’t want to look after these friendly and entertaining animals; however, either for their intelligence or loyalty, dogs have definitely earned a very special space in the heart of many children and adults. The majority of dog’s owners treat them as if they were part of the family and even if you are not one of them, sooner or later you will also fall for the charm that they posses. As a funny fact; have you noticed how many dog’s owners actually look like their dogs? Although there are innumerable cute dogs out there; we have limited our list to only 10. They are loyal, friendly, cute and will eventually be one of your best friends.

 1)      Labrador Retriever

This is probably the most popular breed at the moment; everyone wants one and who can blame them? They are good-tempered, agile and adapt easily to any environment. They are probably one of the most loyal “friends” you could ever have; if this is not enough to convince you; they are intelligent and extremely docile and kind in nature with no trace of aggression – ideal if you have small children.

 

 

2)      Yorkshire Terrier

This small and cute looking dog is probably your second best choice if you have a family or live in an apartment as they are normally very clean and don’t lose as much hair as other breeds; although they tend to be very active, they can adapt easily to small spaces and because they are so intelligent it would be easy to train them; also they are not they kind of dog that will feel jealous in company of the little ones.

 

 

3)      English Springer Spaniel

They were originally used to find and chase preys into the nets of British hunters; nowadays, they have easily adapted to the urban life; however, these symmetrical dogs continue to be strong, affectionate, excitable and very active so if you have a very busy life, it is not recommended for you - they need regular walking and exercise; in addition, it is not advisable if you have small children as the rage syndrome has been associated with them.

 

4)      Golden Retriever

Sweet, amicable, reliable and docile are the perfect words to describe the Golden Retriever breed; although they are big, strong and active, it is extremely unlikely that they will be aggressive against humans or other dogs; the very few occasions that it has happened is when they feel threatened or whey someone is mistreating a member of the family; however, they do tend to be extremely affectionate, even with strangers; their tender eyes and melancholic expression will charm you!

 

5)      Poodle

Poodles are intelligent and bright; they learn quickly and are easy to train. They normally create a quick and enduring connection with the family, including small children; so if you have or are planning to have kids anytime soon, it is the perfect dog for you; they are smart and cute; especially when they announce visitors by barking or perform tricks to entertain the family. If they were human, you would call them pretentious as they tend not to like terriers due to their low pedigree.

  

6)      Jack Russell Terrier

British, small, intelligent, friendly but extremely confident; this breed of dog was originally used for fox hunting and are very athletic and active in nature, especially for their size. They need a lot of exercise; otherwise they will become moody and destructive; it is not advisable to own a Jack Russell Terrier if you have small children, while they tend to be very friendly, any abuse will not be tolerated by them.

 

7)      American Pit Bull Terrier

If you have small children; then you should seriously consider not having one of these dogs; however, there are plenty of families with Pit Bulls and they love them; they are in fact good-nature and very friendly; however, intelligence and stubbornness are their main characteristics: once they have a goal, they will do everything possible to achieve it. They are devoted to their masters and will try to please you, but they need and demand a lot of exercise.

 

8)      Dalmatian

The black-spotted white dog is one of the most famous breed of dogs thanks to Disney movies; however, its popularity has decreased in the last few years; fewer people are choosing Dalmatians as their preferred dog; they are friendly and extremely outgoing; they are not aggressive or shy. Did you know that they are born without the black spots? They normally develop them after three weeks of being alive.

 

9)      Miniature Schnauzer

The small Schnauzer is extremely friendly, intelligent and vigilant; however, they do demand a lot of attention and tend to get depressed if they are not well looked after or enough attention is given to them; but how can you not fall in love with this breed? It is one of the cutest and loyal dogs you can ever have. If you live in an apartment then this is the kind of dog you want as it is easy to train and entertain and doesn’t require as much exercise as other breeds.

 

10)       Irish Setter

One you have a Irish Setter, you will never look for another breed; they are perfect as pets and companions; extremely gracious, sociable, attentive and ideal if you have small children as they are very affectionate and caring; however, they are very active and demand regular exercise and attention so you do need to dedicate them some time – they really enjoy the company of human beings and other dogs.
