What You Should Know About Paperanian Crosses

A Papillon Pomeranian mix is sometimes also known as a Paperanian, and these are delightful, small, fluffy dogs. A Paperanian is what we call a crossbreed or designer dog, which means that it's a mix between two different existing breeds.

A Paperanian will be a mix between a Papillon and a Pomeranian. How Big Will My Puppy Grow?

Both Papillons and Pomeranians are relatively small breeds of dog. A Papillon usually grows to between about 8 and 11 inches tall and weighs between about 7 and 10 pounds. A Pomeranian generally grows to between around 7 and 12 inches and weighs between about 3 and 7 pounds.

In all likelihood, therefore, a mixture between these two breeds is likely also to be a small dog. It's unusual for this cross-breed to grow to more than about 10 inches tall.

What Will My Dog's Coat Be Like?

Papillons usually have long, straight coats, and white bellies with multicoloured backs and ears. Pomeranians have mid length, straight hair and generally are pure white or cream, though some colour variation does exist. Papillon's are generally loving and friendly animals that enjoy exercise. They don't yap, unlike other small dogs, but they can be difficult to house train, though easy to train in other respects. Pomeranians are usually affectionate, sociable, very trainable and great watchdogs. A Papillon Pomeranian mix is likely to combine elements of both its parent breeds, and will be a mixture of the above characteristics.

How Much Exercise Will My Dog Need?

Though your dog is going to be a small animal, both parent breeds are remarkably active dogs, so it is likely that you'll need to give your mix a good amount of exercise. A daily walk will be necessary, and your dog will enjoy running in the garden or in the park. With enough daily exercise though these animals can be kept in apartments happily.

Do Papillon Pomeranian Mixes Have Any Health Concerns?

Both Papillons and Pomeranians are prone to dislocated knee caps. Other than that, Papillons are very healthy dogs, though some have problems with anaesthesia. Pomeranians may also suffer from tooth problems and heart issues. Because your dog will be a crossbreed it's likely to be healthier than a purebred dog, however.

These designer dogs are very versatile, they are happy living in an apartment if they get enough exercise, and they're good with children as well as with other animals, including cats.
