Are The Best Dog Foods Home Made?

27 13:24:25
There are about a bazillion brands of dog foods on the market. Some are really cheap, some are really expensive. Some are "all natural", some are "organic". What sets them apart? What makes one better than another? In short, what are the best dog foods? The answer might surprise you.

The best food you can feed your dog is probably in your kitchen right now. Do you have any chicken in the refrigerator? How about beef or some pork? Do you have any oats in the pantry? Perhaps you have a package of peas and carrots in the freezer. If so, you have the makings of the best food you could possibly feed your pet. With a few exceptions, the food you feed your family is the food you can feed your dog, and it will be far better than any commercial brand. Why is that?

If someone suggested that you eat a can of dog food, you would turn your nose up at the thought, wouldn't you? And with good reason, especially if you've ever read the ingredients in a typical can. For example, meat by-products, a very common ingredient, are parts of an animal, other than meat, and the animal doesn't have to be a cow. All the meat fit to eat has already been stripped off for human use. The rest is put into dog food.

Corn bran, another common ingredient, is the outer coating of the corn kernel, and is of little nutritional value, but is used as a filler. BHA and BHT are preservatives that are banned for human use, but can still be used in pet foods. The list of ingredients you should avoid feeding your dog is lengthy.

You wouldn't put any of those ingredients in the food you feed your family. Why should you expect your dog to eat them? By making your dog's food yourself, you ensure that your dog is getting the nutrition he requires, without any additives that could compromise his health. Truly, the best dog foods are the ones you make yourself.
