The Healthy Dog Food - Blue Buffalo Vs. Pedigree

Ever since the entry of the newcomer pet food brand, Blue Buffalo, the stand of giants in this field have become shaky. Even during the time when I didn't have a pet, the only brand of dog food that I knew was Pedigree. Thanks to their catchy advertisements and their ubiquitous presence in every shopping market, once upon a time, 'dog food was Pedigree and Pedigree was dog food'.

COMPARISON TEST: But recently Blue Buffalo introduced a comparison test to compare Blue Buffalo Dog Food vs. Pedigree along with a few other leading brands. The aim was to show how the other brands were deficient in satisfying the comparison criteria. And the results were stunning.

Pedigree seemed to fail in all 5 criteria! They were "Contains meat as a primary ingredient", "Contains no wheat, corn or soy", "No Artificial flavors", "No by-products or preservatives", "Includes fruits and vegetables", "Contains Lifesource bits"(frozen nutrients and anti-oxidants). Looking at the overtly optimistic results, all I could do is just think that it was an attempt to publicly damage the image of top brands like Pedigree. But only with further research I realized that they were just highlighting a truth.

PEDIGREE: Pedigree seems to have earned customers initially with nothing more than their catchy tagline "Really good for your dogs". Some customers say that it did work well with their dogs. May be they are blessed with stronger breeds. A keener look at the ingredient label is sufficient to compare the two brands. Pedigree seems to be clearly added with chicken by-products. These unnecessary fillers only reduce the digestive power of your pet. Also corn appears twice in the ingredients list. Grains like corn, wheat and soy causes allergy and infection in dogs.

Pedigree uses BHA and BHT to make the food attractive. But these additives are banned for even human foods as they are carcinogenic. Also there is no description given about the meat used. For health and wellness, it is important that your pet gets fresh meat for his diet.

BLUE BUFFALO: Coming to Blue Buffalo, they seem to contain sufficient nutrients for the wholesome development of your cat/dog. They have "Life source bits" which contain specially chosen nutrients and antioxidants. They contain no corn, no by products, no added preservatives or colors. The meat is fresh and full of protein. Nothing more to say!!!

COMPARING PRICES: Comparing the prices of the two brands, Blue Buffalo is costlier than Pedigree. But its worth the nutrient value. Nowadays Pedigree's price is more or less the same as Blue Buffalo's. Pedigree promotes its sale through innumerous discount coupons. But that only suggests the brand's inadequacy.

COMPARING VARIETY: With respect to diversity, Pedigree is many varieties in both dry and wet food. So does Blue Buffalo. But Pedigree has foods suitable to every stage of your pet's development. So there will not be any difficulty in shifting to another brand, unless your pet develops problems.

THE VERDICT: Blue Buffalo may be a bit costlier than Pedigree. And Pedigree may be a bit more easily available than Blue Buffalo. If you are of the sort who feeds your dog raw or with a home made recipe, Pedigree may be a cheaper stand by to be used at times. But if your dog's diet totally depended on a brand, it would definitely be Blue Buffalo. There are many sites which will help you find blue buffalo discount coupons.
