Many dog lovers nowadays get confused regarding the best type of food to give your best pet. As of today, two types of foods are being examined carefully as to which is better to use in feeding dogs. One is the commercial food and the other is a raw dog food. Loving your dogs means giving them the best diet and to do that, you have to be knowledgeable enough to choose the best menu to give your dog. It will be presented in this article both the boon and the bane of giving your best buddies raw foods.

When you feed your pets with an uncooked food, you are actually doing the so called raw feeding. This is considered more nutritious than the commercial diet for dogs. It is believed that uncooked foods reduce natural foul odor and clean up the teeth of a carnivorous pet like dogs.

Historically, over a thousand years ago, dog ancestors have fed themselves another carnivores. This act is very similar to raw feeding. It is reasonable enough to feed your carnivorous pets with uncooked foods. However, this natural feeding cannot guarantee safe and better feeding because for one, uncooked foods contain a lot of bacteria which can be a reason of some infections and sickness in your dogs.

The preparation of commercial foods requires the application of heat to kill the bacteria present in fresh meats. However, the heat required is too high that may also destroy the proteins and vitamins in the meat. In order to replace the lost and destroyed nutrients, food manufacturers add supplements but this is not a guarantee.

One bad thing about commercial foods is that it contains more grains which is considered harmful to dogs. This has something to do with their digestive system which is not as advanced as that of humans. Again, dogs are carnivores. Their digestive system is designed to digest meats. Also, when grains are heated greatly, there is an alteration in its structure which will chemically produce harmful products.

Another harmful effect of feeding your dogs with a commercial menu is bacterial infection. Usually, when commercial meats are used in feeding dogs, they stay in the mouth and teeth and pile up. This will result to bacterial propagation and consequently infections and poisoning.

The good thing herein for commercial foods is that they are well evaluated and regulated by some food control associations which could assure dog owners that the food is of good quality. Raw feeding does not have this kind of quality regulation.

Dogs crush their foods, they do not chew them. Usually in raw feeding, the food is prepared whole so that your pet will joyfully crush and eat them. This is considered, however, not a good thing because there is a great possibility of dental fractures and consequently, obstructions in the intestines.

The best thing you could do is to consult you veterinary doctors every now and then. Have your pets checked as frequent as possible so that you could monitor if the foods they have eaten are well digested or not. It is still you who will choose what to feed your dogs. You now have the idea regarding the good and bad effects of giving your best buddy a raw dog food.
