How to Mix Boiled Rice With Dry Dog Food. When a dog has a bout of gastrointestinal upset that causes diarrhea, veterinarians often recommend a bland diet. Rice is one of the specific foods included. Once your dog is on his way to recovery, your veterinarian will likely advise you to return to the dog's normal diet. Transitioning him from rice and other bland foods to his regular dog food should be done slowly. Otherwise, the transition may cause further stomach problems.

Things Needed

• Measuring cups
• Dog bowl
• Spoon
• Rice
• Dog food

Step 1

Cook the rice according to the instructions on the box. When adding the rice to the dog food, mix it in the bowl with a spoon.

Step 2

Determine how much dog food you normally feed your dog. Do this by putting his usual amount of dog food into measuring cups.

Step 3

Feed your dog a mixture made up of 3/4 rice and 1/4 dog food on the first day. If, for example, your dog normally eats one cup of dog food, you would mix 3/4 cup of rice and 1/4 cup of dog food. Feed this ratio for a day or two and observe the dog's stools. If they appear to be forming rather than runny, proceed to the next step. If they appear to be runny, continue with the same ratio of rice to dog food for a further two days to see if the stools will start to form.

Step 4

Feed your dog a mixture of 1/2 rice and 1/2 dog food after a day or two. Using the example of one cup of dog food, this would be 1/2 cup of rice and 1/2 cup of dog food.

Step 5

Continue to increase the amount of dog food by 1/4 every day or two until he is getting only dog food and his stools are forming normally.
