Crate training is no doubt a very essential aspect of keeping the pet safe and also implementing some form of discipline to it. There are many instances when the dog needs to be confined to a place so that other things can go smoothly. The pet owner may have a party at home or may have to leave the dog at home due to whatever reason, so its not safe to leave without any monitoring.

Putting the dog in a crate is the ideal way to deal with the situation and here are few tips that will help a pet owner successfully train the dog to get used to the crate.

Get the right crate

One has to get the right crate depending on the temperament of the dog. Ideally the carte must be folded so that it can be easily carried to anywhere. Aplastic crate provides a den like ambience to the dog and it feels secure over there. There is no ventilation in plastic crate. Wire crate provides ventilation but they have to be strong to last long. Mesh crates are not very strong and their durability will not gratify the need of a pet owner.

Make the crate comfortable

The carte has to be made comfortable at all cost. Keep beddings inside the crate; make it comfortable as per the season. In winter the crate must be covered from above ensuring that there is proper ventilation. During summer the crate must be fully ventilated so that the pooch feels comfortable and not hot. The crate must be provided with comfortable bedding irrespective of the season so that the pooch does not feel uncomfortable at any cost.

Allow the dog to enter the crate after exercise

It is better to keep the dog in a crate after it has gone through physical or mental exercise. After these exercises the dog will need a place to sleep and during that time it will sleep comfortably in the crate. When the dog is about to go out for walk or for playing do not crate it before this s it is bound to be restless. (This behavior may also vary depending on the temperament of the dog.

Do not keep the crate at an isolated place

Never keep the crate at an isolated place where the pooch will feel left out. The crate must be placed in the common room where the pooch will feel like staying among everyone. This could be living room or even kitchen, remember that mental comfort of the pooch is very essential in keeping it safe and happy.

These were some basic tips that will help the dog stay comfortable in the crate. Remember that the dog is a living being after all, never treat it as a source of entertainment and play with it whenever you feel. Make it feel belonging to the family.
