Training A Golden Retriever Well

It doesn't matter how friendly or loving you may think your Golden Retriever is, you must not forget the fact that they are a dog and have animal instincts.

So, what needs to done when training a Golden Retriever..

The Essentials of Training a Golden Retriever

When Golden Retrievers are puppies is by far the best time to start training them. When they are a puppy they are still learning and very open to training. Sadly, as they move into adulthood it becomes increasingly harder to train them because they develop habits and set in their ways. It's definitely not impossible to train an adult dog but it is a lot more difficult. Therefore, try and begin training as early as possible.

Commands

Helping your dog understand commands is a fundamental training technique. The basics are fine here such as 'sit', 'stay' and 'down'. Doing this will make the rest of your training much easier because they know you are in charge and understand communication techniques.

Short, Sharp Sessions

When your Golden begins to enter adult hood you must be training them for a duration of time. However, the most effective way to train them whilst they are young is to employ short power sessions. Somewhere in the region of 5 - 10 minutes at a time is adequate.

Training With A Clicker

A clicker helps train your dog much quicker and get responses much faster.Clickers help keep your dogs attention so they can quickly and easily understand your commands.

Benefits

For some reason punishment of dogs has been seen as a great form of training in the past. Fortunately, this isn't the case anymore as many people are realising at how troublesome punishment training can be; it's harmful to you and your dog.

Whenever they have done something correctly, reward your dog with positive reinforcements. This makes them want to do it again in the future.

Risks of Not Training Golden Retrievers

Whilst training your dog may seem like a lot of hard work and take lots of time it is still very important. Even if training a Golden Retriever seems like a lot of hard work, the benefits far outweight the drawbacks! The negatives aspects of not training include issues surrounding anger, aggression, biting, chewing, separation anxiety and even much worse.
