The PI round 2014 at FMS Delhi will commence on June 20, 2014 and will continue till June 27, 2014. With the shortlisting cut off criteria of 98.20 percentile in CAT 2013, PI is going to be the only saviour in such a close competition. The final selection is based on the cumulative performance of the candidate in the CAT Score as well as the PI round.
Extempore and PI at One place: Delhi
FMS conducts its PI round at Delhi and the candidates shortlisted for final admission round have to come to North Campus of Delhi University, if they wish to participate in PI at FMS
Maximum weightage on CAT score
On a scale of 100, overall CAT 2013 percentile is reported to be going to play the major role in PI round 2014 at FMS Delhi. While 85% weightage is to be awarded to CAT Percentile rest 15% would go for Extempore with 5% and PI with 10%.
No Reservation
Former Dean, FMS Delhi Dr J K Mitra while sharing the keys facts about PI round with MBAUniverse.com had informed that �Short-listed candidates come from all over India as FMS has no reservation for any seat for residents or students of Delhi or Delhi University.’
Since Delhi University is a Central University and FMS is governed by DU rules, this fact goes to benefit many MBA aspirants.
Final results may not be delayed
Despite the delay in declaration of shortlist of 2572 candidates, the final results may not be delayed and session is expected to commence on time. Dr Mitra shares the quick, ongoing and time bound process at FMS �Remarkable thing is that the results are always declared on the last day of the interview itself, sometimes quite late in the night. FMS Interview Panels actually have no clue about the Test Scores of the candidates; the sealed CD containing the Test Scores of all short-listed candidates arrives from the "Secrecy" section of the University of Delhi only when all candidates' interviews are over. Then the Test Score data are merged with the Extempore + Interview Scores data and a category-wise Merit List and Waiting Lists are prepared and are declared on the last date of the interview.’
In fact the ranks of selected candidates were never revealed, as these were alphabetical lists created to avoid any 'preconceived notion' about the relative 'quality' of the candidates admitted in a session. But the waitlists obviously are ranked lists

There may not be any substantial change in PI format of FMS Delhi except for the fact that GD is not being conducted in 2014. In view of Dr Mitra �It is a very friendly easy-going process. Aspirants are called on the basis of Roll Numbers which is based on the Centre of their Entrance Test.’
�Extempore’ precedes the �PI’
It takes around 30 minutes to get all degrees and other documents verified. The individual interview process is preceded by �Extempore’ speech of 2 minutes. There is no syllabus or rules to choose a topic. The Chair decides who among the panel will announce a topic on the spot. No thinking time is allowed, and the speech is to be delivered before the panelists.
If the candidate is not comfortable with the topic, an alternate topic can also be announced with no penalty. The extempore is used as a very distinguishing feature of FMS selection process. Dr Mitra emphasizes the importance of extempore by saying �other than the fluency of articulation, choice of words, panelists look for evidence of a creative mind and capacity to think on one's feet.’ In order to be sure about the 'quality' of the candidate, panel might even give a second extempore topic.

The Personal Interview process at FMS is relaxed, short and easy going. The members in the interview panel mostly behave in an informal manner. They hardly ever check any testimonials or documents. Do’s and Don’ts: What and How to prepare
Dr Mitra’s advice for PI preparation is �don't prepare for FMS interviews. Your best chance will be when you are at your natural self. If you believe in loads of good qualities in you, we shall discover you.’ He shares important do’s and don’ts for the PI process as below

- No coached responses. Most of the 'coached' responses or behaviors are viewed as �acting’ which jeopardize your chance to be at FMS. All charms wear off when an amateur actor appears as a poor caricature of someone else
- The panel is essentially looking for 'quality of thought process' and 'natural leadership behavior' any artificial or mugged up participation will draw negative attention and fail to impress the assessors who are well experienced.
- Avoid getting worried about extempore. Knowing extempore topics given to other candidates do not help much. Extempore topics are also not repeated.
Do’s
-Compensate for any low percentile in PI. Candidates who did not get enough chance to contribute at the short-duration, high-traffic group process, can easily compensate in this individual process
-Most of the times the PI begins either with the 'views' expressed during the 'extempore' or with a discussion around one's bio-data given in the application form. So focus on them
-There could be a few questions on one's academic background to assess the depth and accuracy of knowledge. So be good in them
-There could be a few General Awareness questions. As a regular reader of newspaper you are supposed to know their answers
-According to Dr Mitra �subsequent questions always follow from the previous responses of the candidate.’ So be on your own while answering the questions in PI round.
