Dogs may sometimes lose their hair in some parts of their body due to a condition known as dog hot spots. In some cases the affected area may appear wet. The condition is very uncomfortable for the pet.

This is a skin problem caused by bacteria. The surroundings may aggravate the condition where the weather is favorable for multiplication of the bacteria that produces spots on the dogs. There are other reasons like improper cleaning, allergens or behavioral problems that can add to the formation of such marks on the body of our pets.

An allergic reaction to food or parasites may develop on the dog's skin. The irritation causes the animal to lick the affected area consistently. A damp warm blemish may emerge. This creates a suitable breeding ground for bacteria. The itchiness will make the dog scratch excessively and cause loss of fur. Anxiety and boredom can also be contributing factors to hair loss.

Application of low potency antiseptic after clipping and cleaning the spot is usually enough to get out of the problem, but it should be ensured that a vet supervises the process to make sure that there are no other reasons for occurrence of the disease. Use of an e-collar to prevent the pet from licking the affected part may be ideal during the treatment period.

In some cases a once-off treatment is insufficient to heal the skin. Regular contact with allergens may hinder and slow down the healing process. It may be necessary for the veterinarian to conduct additional tests in order to get to the root of the problem and then treat it accordingly.

Regular grooming with a suitable brush is necessary to keep your dog healthy and content. He enjoys your undivided attention when you brush him at least twice a week. Long fur should be brushed more often and clipped when necessary. You can do this yourself or employ the services of a professional groomer to attend to your pooch. Brushing and clipping will certainly alleviate the cause of raw patches and subsequent infection.

If the spots are caused due to allergy, treatment may be a bit complicated. It is to be verified whether the problem is due to allergy or parasite. Then the origin of the problem is to be established. If it is a parasitic attack due to insects, a proper bath with the appropriate shampoo will be sufficient. Medicines may be needed in some severe cases only.

If the reason is allergy, we must find out what actually causes it. Change of food habits may be helpful to solve some cases. Changing the surroundings can also be fruitful. We must continue with the trials and keep on experimenting till a viable solution is found.

We should always be on the look out for possible dog hot spots on our pet's body so that it remains healthy after timely treatment . Treatment should be given as early as possible. Our pet dogs should be looked after properly and some toys are recommended so that the dogs get over the problem of loneliness and boredom.
