Easy Steps For The 3 Basic Commands Of Dog Training

Interested in providing your dog the basic dog training he needs? If yes, you can either hire a professional obedience instructor, or you personally can do the job if you so desire. In hiring an instructor there is a price to pay and the training is held in a class. Conversely, training the dog yourself is charge-free and can be done at home. But it is advisable to get education on dog training first if you prefer the latter.

There are three basic things a dog should learn: sit, stay and come. Teaching him to sit, you will need some dog treats to get his attention and compliance. The environment has to be quiet to avoid distraction. The steps are easy. Simply tell your dog repetitively to sit while you hold a treat just above his head. Doing so pushes the dog to look up and his instinct to reach the treat makes him sit on his own. If he doesn’t instantly comply, gently push his rear down. Then later if he sits, praise him and give the treat as reward. This kind of training works well because as the dog constantly hears sit, he associates the command with receiving praise and sitting.

Next, teach him how to stay. Oftentimes, trainers find this part of dog training difficult. To do this, sit your dog in an area without directions. Then slowly make back steps as you tell him to stay repeatedly. Retain the eye contact between you two. If he suddenly gets up, say No and begin again. This dog training may take a while so patience is needed. Once progress is seen, bring the training to the next level by walking away with your back turned. Dogs are expected to come after you at this instant. But tell your dog No. Then repeat the process as you walk away.

Lastly, if he has mastered stay, learning come follows. After staying, call his attention by saying come. Make your voice lively with an inviting gesture while patting your knee. If he responds instantly, you may then reward it with his favorite treat.

Now always remember, use praise instead of punishment because dogs respond best on positive dog training. With these entirely kept in mind, letting your dog learn the 3 basic commands is assured. Sooner your beloved dog becomes a gentler dog that deserves everyone’s admiration!
