Each pet owners experience the occasionally boring and baffling procedure of breeding, domesticating and instructing their dog some benevolent conduct. Dogs, like humans, need a little bit of motivation to begin their training exercises. Simple commands such as sit, come here, go get it, will all work with a little reinforcement of treats. This does not mean that you will provide the dog with a treat every time they do a command, that would be simply spoiling your dog and when you do not provide treats, they will not listen. The idea is helping them understand that being an obedient dog is beneficial to their well being. Dogs have an equivalent mind to a 3 year old child, which means they can understand quite a few training techniques if applied correctly.

Don't let your dog run your household, it is important that if your dog barks you provide some negative reinforcement so the behavior is not repeated. Picking up your dog by their collar with both of their feet in the air as a discplinary measure, not hugging, cuddling, or kissing them after they bark, placing them inside a room for 2 minutes to understand that the behavior will not be tolerated and then letting them out after 2 minutes (before their memory forgets what they were punished for) or taking away something that they like are all good measures. Never leave a bowl of food out for your dog, only provide food when your deem necessary (when you feel your dog is hungry or the recommended servings per day). By only providing food during certain times you help the dog understand that you are in fact the owner and without you he would not be able to find food. A dog will always challenge your command as they begin growing up so it is always important to assert your command over them and make them realize they must follow you.

A great leash technique is wrapping your leash around your waist so wherever you walk the dog is forced to follow you. A disobedient dog will attempt to push away from you but will be unable too and as you walk he will follow you. As you walk, use the back and forth technique, by simply walking forward 10 paces and then turning back 10 paces, keep doing this exercise throughout. By doing this, the dog associates and their mind is stimulated by the fact you are leading them, they understand you are in control. You can also make this experience fun and run around poles or tree trunks in the lead with the dog running close behind you; watch for the dog's eyes and see if they are following your movement or attempting to search elsewhere and their attention is divided away from you.

Doing these specific dog training techniques twice a day will help your dog immensely. When you walk your dog after using these techniques (preferably for 2 hours a day in 20 minute intervals), you will begin to notice they will watch your movements and will always look up to you for command.
