Most people think that crate training is like a punishment for the pooch as initially it resists entering the crate and creates hell lot of trouble. Actually, crate training is very beneficial for the pooch but unfortunately most pet owners do not know the right way of crate training the pooch and this is why they face difficultly and so does the pooch.

So let’s look at some ways by which crate training is possible without much trouble to the dear furry baby.

Introduce the crate to your pooch

Firstly introduce the crate to the pooch, keep it in a place in the house where the family spends much time. It must not be isolated at any cost. Now open the crate door and toss few treats into it, initially it may not get in, do not force it at any cost. Keep tossing the treats and if it does not work out that way, then toss in its favorite toy. It may not enter on the first day but gradually it will enter one day for sure, have some patience.

Feed it meal in the crate

Start feeding it meal in the crate itself, after the first step is over. Place his/her bowl at the door of the crate and initiate it to have meal there. It may resist initially but you need to be patience with it and talk to it is a soft tone. At first give it some tasty treats and then when it starts eating the treat at the door of the crate, next time place the bowl a little inside.

When it is comfortable with this then after few days close the door as and when it gets inside and open it as soon as it shows some discomfort or finishes the meal.

Condition the dog for staying the crate

After the second step in over then you need to teach the dog to stay in the crate for longer duration of time. After it starts eating in the crate slightly close the door and stay outside the crate for few minutes. Then slowly move to the next room and after ten minutes come back and open the crate door.

Gradually increase the length of time the dog stays in the crate without you being in front of it. This will take few weeks but in due course of time, it will get used to it.

This same practice can be used to crate train the dog during the night. It will take several weeks but a proper approach will surely train it properly. Do not forget to give it some tasty treats after it successfully stays in the crate.

Always consult the vet to know the right time your dog must spend in the crate. Never let it stay for a longer duration as it will harm it emotionally. Remember to play with the pooch and not crate it always
