Pet Training Is A Must For Homes With Carpets

Carpets and pets, do they ever mix? Our pets are adorable creatures that give us comfort when no one will, and yet on the other hand, if you have a home with nice carpeting, our patience is tested. Fortunately, cats and dogs can be easily trained when it comes to toilet, but you need to clean the area where they peed or pooped on or their heightened smell will make it a habit for them to return on the exact same spot for soiling.

So, the next question is, how do you clean your carpets thoroughly so that it won't become a target for your pets?

Step 1: If the stain is still fresh, then you need to soak it with newspapers or paper towels. Soak as much as you can until there is no visible particle lying around. Cover the spot with some tissue and put some weight over it to draw out as much liquid as possible. Next, dampen the area with water and extract it using a wet vac.

There are commercially available pet odor neutralizer that you can use after vacuuming, always follow the instructions set on the product to prevent any problem. When extracting, make sure that you use a water safe machine which is designed specifically on extracting liquids. Remember, these stains can be superficially removed in which the odor will return after the carpet is dried.

You must be thinking of just using stronger chemicals to eliminate the odor altogether, but some chemicals can damage the carpet, so be very careful when using these chemicals. Chemicals alone will not be able to eliminate odors completely due to the bonding proteins from the urine that will stick like glue to your carpet's fibers. If the urine has soaked deeply into the carpet's padding itself, then the carpet needs to be replaced.

To prevent this from happening again, then you need to train your pets, which is part of the cleanup process.

Remember that if the animal can trace its scent on the area, it will return and do it again. So, make sure that neutralizing the odor is the top priority, if not; pets should be barred from entering the area. You should have a designated area to reinforce their training. Training should be done in a positive way, rewarding the animal instead of punishing it. Keep this in mind and you will be surprised at how fast they'll learn.
