Ways On How To Combat Fleas Without Losing Your Cats

According to recent study, cats have outnumbered dogs in the statistics of companion pets. With our love of these cute furry felines, these cats are growing in numbers in households, and getting more and more of popularity as pets is getting more attention for giving therapeutic effect to owners. But the responsibility of the owners to take good care of their pet cats is also something cat lovers need to consider in having these cute domestic animals at home.

The most common issue with these furry friends is the fleas. Although there are many pet products you can buy over the counter which claim to help you get rid of those fleas on your cats, the truth is, you need to know more than just that. Here are some more help lines that you need to go through to provide your beloved cats extra comfort from itchy fleas.

Firstly, your cats don't tell you what's pestering it and causing it discomfort. And unlike dogs, they tend to show no sign of those parasites on their body. So it requires you as owner to do the initiative to check your cats for fleas, perhaps visually. Since in many cases, fleas are so tiny that they are not visible to naked eyes. In this case professionals are necessary, and you should send your cats to veterinarian for more thorough check up.

Your vets may prescribe to use shampoo or dip to remove the fleas on your cats. You should take note these are not intended for lasting control. Don't be surprised to see those fleas back again to your cats' body and fur when it was only a week ago that your pets had a flea bath. Shampoos are effective only for a day or two and only have small amount of chemical residual on your pets.

While shampoos are milder and so better for the skin of your cats, flea dips contain stronger chemical ingredients that are usually formulated against fleas, ticks and mites as well. This is less recommended than shampoos as first step in fighting those fleas. Using dips require extra caution on application. A common belief for these forms of medications is that the more you apply, the better the result you'll get, which is totally wrong, since the strong chemicals may harm the skin of your pets. Read and understand the label on the product, and if necessary, always seek advice from vets.

After getting the fleas from your pets, you must also remove fleas from your home to keep them from coming back, and at the same time keep your entire household from these unwanted creatures. It's time to deal with the other places at your home where those fleas might have started to strayed or started to populate. Eeeew! These pests may have taken control of your bed, and started crawling towards your kids! Now is the time to move and combat those fleas using flea bombs.

A good flea bomb contains an ingredient that acts as an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) which stops the fleas from reproduction. Make sure when buying the flea bomb that it provides an IGR. Buy just enough to cover the entire house. Keep the house clean to really make sure those fleas are gone.
