What Are The Real Causes of Dog Diarrhea and Colitis

In this article I would like to share with you some useful information about dog colitis. If you own a dog or if you are planning to get one sometime in the nearby future then you are probably aware that colitis is very common among dogs of all breeds and ages.

It does not matter whether the dog is young or old, large or small, he may end up developing colitis.

Colitis most of the time is associated with uncontrollable diarrhea. Dogs that suffer from colitis are desperate to go out and they simply cannot hold their stools, which means that quite often they leave a mess. While colitis is very common health condition among dogs, not a lot of dog owners know what colitis really is and this is why I have decided to write this article up.

In simple terms, colitis is inflammation of the colon and as I have mentioned earlier, it is very often associated with severe diarrhea which contains blood or mucus.

The problem is that no on is really sure what causes colitis in the first place. There is no single cause of the condition. In some cases it could be linked to stress. Stressful experiences in your dog's life, such as change of environment or new person in the household could trigger colitis.

In addition to stress-induced colitis, sometimes colitis can be parasite-induced. Parasites such as whipworms can trigger colitis and the best ways to tackle parasite colitis is to consult with a highly experienced vet.

Finally, some dogs suffer from the inflammation of the colon because of dietary hyper sensitivity. I know that to some of you this might sound shocking, but the fact is that quite a lot of dogs nowadays have very sensitive digestive systems. Most of the dogs from their early days are feed on processed food that was developed in highly advanced laboratories and our dog's digestive systems get used to processed foods like that. Once we introduce changes to our dog's diet, such changes can trigger the inflammation of the colon.

If your dog suffers from dietary hyper sensitivity then I would recommend you to play around with different types of diets. Try raw food diet, try dry food diet, try as many different dog diets as you possibly can to see to which one your dog responds the best. In addition to this you should consider investing in a high quality dog digestive aid.
