Noise Pollution - Altering the Behavior of Birds Adversely

Humans believe that only they are affected by the hazardous toxic waste around them, but birds are not alien, they are severely affected by the noise pollution. Contamination causes them to suffer from behavioral and psychological stress to sound exposure especially the natural sounds such as waterfalls and streams. According to researchers the effects of noise has increased at an alarming proportion making the environment harmful for a lot of species present on planet earth. The adverse effect of these anthropogenic environments are observed by several scientists. Following are the most observed impacts of noise pollution on birds:

Harming Sensual Cells

It has been observed by the scientists that noise pollution is affecting the sensory cells of the birds which is eventually causing loss of hearing in them. This problem may lead to permanent loss of hearing in mammals, while in birds it can be restored to some extent because of regeneration. The effect of this is however injurious and is usually caused by loud sounds. Some eco-friendly agencies are working on it to make sure the need for noise standards with considerable buffer zones particularly in the areas where birds are nested.

Causes Prolonged Stress

Lurid sound is linked to chronic stress in humans as well as animals. While in humans, experiencing loud noise for a longer period of time may result in different cardiac problems and increased blood pressure; in birds, it is responsible for high stress responses. These are also responsible for causing psychological and hormonal misbalances in animals as well. It has been observed that birds of some specific types experience a decline in their reproductive procedure and are unable to fight back with such problems. This is mostly seen in the areas where there are heavy toxic industries and major traffic pollution.

Lack of Habitat Occupancy

Environmentalists have researched upon the declining species of birds that no longer exists due to human involvement and other pollution disturbances. However, some of the birds are tolerant to such atmosphere. Scientists have noticed that increasing population of humans are highly negative for birds. Birds are affected by the localities of humans where there are a lot of cars, industries, factories and other pollution creating resources. These issues led them to shift their nests to other places and that is why lack of habitant occupancy occurs.

These responses usually depend upon the type, frequency, duration and consistency of the noise. While some species have been able to evolve and are showing good tolerance to such sound exposures, there are many that are being harmed in uncountable ways.
