A Puggle Is a Treat for the Family

What in the world is a Puggle? Is it something you play with? Is it something you eat? What exactly is it? That is what many people ask when they first hear the word and when they find out it’s the cutest little dog they’ve ever seen, they fall totally in love.

If you are looking for a dog to add to your family, and you want it to be friendly to children, a Puggle might just fit the bill. Puggles are hybrid dogs that are the result of a cross between a beagle hound and a pug. They are a very energetic dog and they come in both a regular size and a pocket size.

People who own a Puggle say they are irresistible. They love to cuddle with their humans and they are sweet tempered and energetic. They are very friendly and get along with children, other dogs and other pets in your home. They do need an area where they can play and daily walks to get out all the energy that they bring to the breed.

When you see a Puggle for the first time you will probably be taken in by the sweet face looking back at you with the worried expression. They come in several colors, including black, white, and fawn/tan and sometimes they are tri-colored using these three. The larger dogs grow to be about 15-30 pounds and are 13-15 inches at the shoulder.

A puggle is a short haired dog so they required a little maintenance in grooming but they usually won’t need to be taken to a groomer. Brushing at home will help them get rid of the excess hair that they shed. However, they don’t shed very much.

Everyone says that a puggle has a lot of energy and loves to play. Tug-of-war is one of their favorite games but use a sock instead of a rope. The sock is softer and easier for them to grab on and pull. The best thing to do is find something like this in a pet store because it will provide the play without the particles that may come off the sock and get stuck in the puggle’s teeth. When they are smaller, a game of chase, hide and seek or fetch will keep your puggle busy, and the more energy in running and chasing you can do with this job the better. They have a tremendous amount of energy.

People seem to love their puggle and bring into their lives many things that they do with other designer type dogs. In many states there are play days that are held at training facilities for these dogs. Usually they require that the dogs have all their immunizations up-to-date before they come into the play arena so that everyone enjoys play.

Anyone considering a puggle needs to understand that these dogs are pretty high maintenance. Between the amounts of energy they have and the attention they need, you will be very busy with them.
