If you’re looking for a loving, relatively low maintenance dog, you have found him. The American Eskimo is a charming loving companion. Contrary to popular belief, they are easier to maintain then most dogs. In fact, they are known to actually clean their faces like cats! Their coat also repels dirt and they have no odor. This beautiful affectionate dog is also known to be excellent around kids, is extremely intelligent and has a very willing spirit.

Nicknamed “Eskie”, the American Eskimos’ origins are unclear. However, most believe they are the descendents of the German Spitz. German Spitz were brought to the US by German settlers. The American Eskimos were spread through the US by Barnum & Baily Circus. In fact, an “eskie” was the first dog ever to walk a tight rope. To those who know the breed, walking a tight rope is no surprise. The American Eskimos display an abundant amount of talents including narcotic detection, superb obedience, guarding, and are wonderful performing artist.

American Eskimos are a healthy breed not known for many disorders. They are playful but gain weight easily if not exercised enough. Moreover, this breed’s mix of talent and love is ideal to fit the role of the family dog.
