Treatment of Goldfish Ulcer

2016/5/3 17:02:09

Owners of goldfish may come across ulcers in the fish and have to learn how to treat them effectively. Once the ulcers are spotted they should be treated immediately to avoid a further spread of the ulcers. Before treating the fish find out the cause of the ulcers and quarantine all the fish being brought into the tank.

Once the problem has been identified, the goldfish is now ready to receive treatment. Goldfish ulcer can be treated in several ways. One of the treatment includes using small portions of potassium permanganate. However, this method is preferred for those who have treated ulcers before.

The ulcers can also be treated using Melafix. This medication ensures the quick healing and restoration of the fish back to health. The medication is put in the water in the tank or pond, for every 50 gallons of water one teaspoon is put. If the damages caused by the ulcers are grave then double dosage can be used. Once the process of treating the ulcers has begun the carbon content within the tank should be lowered.

Another way of treating the fish is by feeding them on Debride medicated food. The ulcer is usually accompanied by bacterial infections and to get rid of the infections Debride medicated food and ointment can be used. Feed the goldfish using the medicated food for a period of two weeks. Furthermore, the ointment needs to be applied on the fish for the same duration. The fish should be healthy again at the end of the two weeks.

The use of Kutsuri wound kit is another method of treating the ulcer. When using the wound kit, ensure the fish is asleep, and then sterilize it using the solution provided with the kit. This is done to clean the wound. During the treatment, medicated powder should be applied onto the area that is affected. Since the powder is likely to be washed by water, a soft application of a solution of red iodine will prevent this from happening. In addition to the solution, use a water sealer.

Antibiotics can be injected into the fish to treat the ulcer. The owner of the goldfish can make use of a hospital tank to treat the fish. The fish should be kept under observation on a daily basis for two weeks. In case there is no hospital tank, there is another option where the whole pond or fish tank is treated with antibiotics. This is to make sure the other fish in the pond or tank are not infected by the bacteria.
