Pets have accidents for a number of reasons, but the results are the same, stains and odor. Some types of flooring hold up better against pet accidents than other types of flooring. Carpeting and wood in poor condition don聮t fair very well. Cement flooring and vinyl do better. Tile does well, but the grout usually will be affected.

The reasons pets have accidents:

聲 Left inside too long
聲 No pet pads to use
聲 Untrained
聲 Elderly
聲 Health issue
聲 Litter box is not clean

Some accidents can be controlled by training, medical care, or using pet pads. For some animals that are having accidents because of health issues there isn聮t much that can be done. Cleaning a litter box more frequently is an easy fix.

Dogs tend to have their accidents anywhere in a room, often right in the middle. Cats聮 accidents may be more difficult to locate due to cats preferring privacy and often use hidden corners. Some pets return to the same spot of their own accident or another pet聮s previous accident if the odor hasn聮t been completely removed. It is easier to remove odor from concrete, vinyl, and tile. Follow pet odor removal recommendations for removing odor from other flooring. For carpet, be certain the carpet pad doesn聮t retain pet urine or feces odor. Be sure it is cleaned thoroughly. For some pets, removing the carpet is all that is needed to eliminate pet accidents.
