Pets Summer Safety For Your Doggys

tr> It’s still crazy hot outside. You may love being outside, possibly pool side, but your doggy will suffer if you are not careful.

When outside for any length of time, if possible, try and tie your dog to a large, shady tree. A big bowl of water nearby is a must. Do not leave your dog by his dog house. In the summer the house will only trap the heat. If you and your pet love long walks, then plan to do them early in the morning or late in the evening when the pavement won’t be hot. Asphalt can actually burn your doggy’s paws. Now is the time to check out grassy parks and sidewalks for your time together. You may even be lucky enough to have a specified “dog park” in your neighborhood. More and more communities are establishing these dog safe havens where you can unleash your dog into a large, fenced in area. Your pet gets to socialize with other doggy's and you get to socialize with other humans.

And never, ever leave your fur baby in the car alone. Even with the windows down, the car will quickly become too hot in a matter of ten minutes! It’s not just the temperature but humidity that also harms your pet.

Also be prepared if there is power outage. Without air conditioning and depending how long the power may be out, you and your pet will need a back up plan for staying comfortable. If you live in a area that’s prone to outages, consider buying a generator or at least know where one can easily be rented. At the very least, invest in battery operated desk fans.

One of the best and easiest ways you can make sure that your doggy is staying cool in hot weather is with a outdoor doggy bed pad that has a zipper to allow you to insert a gel pack that you have kept frozen in the freezer. These gel packs are good for some six to eight hours and can be re-frozen over and over. There are also doggy pet beds where you pour water directly into the bed too. This is a great way to avoid heatstroke. Breeds of dogs that have short muzzles are especially prone to this as well as older dogs, dogs with any kind of heart condition and overweight, under exercised pets too.

Check out our Cooler Gel Packs, Cool Bed III and Cool Lounger Pet Beds to keep your “best furry friend” safe and cool all summer to make both of you happy! And check out our collection of plush crate pads that come in a variety of colors too. Remember you may also need a second pad. Keep a pad in the room of your house that doesn’t have the crate in it so your dog can nap comfortably while you take the couch.
