I had a cat for 19 years, man he was the best. I loved him very much,he was so different from most cats, and he was so affectionate. I took him everywhere I could. He loved to go with me in my van. At the time I operated a coin car wash .Every night we would jump in the van and drive downtown to close it up at night time.
He never strayed, I could take him camping and never have to tie him up, he just never went far. At one time, I had just moved into a new apartment, that had its own outside entrance. The day after I moved, I let him out when I got up. I didn't have a clue where he went, but it was time for me to go to work, and I had to leave. I was gone for over 10 hours, and when I got home, there he was sitting on the steps waiting for me to return.
He did have some strange habits. I had to remove the mice he brought home from the front steps every so often. Which was alright, I didn't mind, but sometimes he would drop them 1 door short of home. I was just glad the lady that lived there was nice and understanding. Towards the last he became what seemed to be confused, he would go into a room or outside and just start howling like he was lost. I would go find him and just say, hey. He would stop turn around and everything was fine. Then one night around 10:00 p.m. I let him outside, I left the door ajar so he could come back in whenever he wanted to. He came in looked around and then went back outside, I never saw him again.
When a problem comes up with a pet, and over 19 years I did have some problems with my cat. But usually they were medical. Behavioral problems can be dealt with as well. Even though I did not have a urine problem with my cat indoors, at one time I had that problem outside, from another male cat in the neighborhood. He chose the garbage can, and made a real mess. The urine smell back there was awful.
I understand the attachment one can have for their pets. You don't want to have to get rid of them. So if your having a problem with a cat urine smell, from your cat going outside the box. Find out here how you can fix that problem.
