Some Tips in Obedience Training for Dogs That Can Make You the Alpha of your Dogs Pack

In obedience training for dogs you easily discover that you have many things to teach your new dog whether he is a puppy or an adult dog. You want to have a dog that knows he is loved, you want him to be trained and energetic, but not spoiled, or uncontrollable.

The simple acts can usually produce the best results with dogs. This is why dogs tend to be naturals at learning manners and commands, this can help make obedience training for dogs more successful, especially when you understand a key aspect of their nature.

Dogs are social, pack-oriented animals. In any dog pack, the alpha dog sets the rules and the rest of the pack will follow. Therefore, by establishing yourself as the alpha, you can guarantee that your obedience training sessions with your dog will be quite productive.

Your dog will respect you as a strong, clear, fair leader of the pack. If you fail to establish this position for yourself, your dog will feel obliged to try to take the position of leader for himself.

The following is a list of some dog training tips that anyone can use in obedience training for dogs that can teach a new puppy or any untrained or undisciplined dog that you are the alpha in your pack.

1. Never allow your dog to feed from your plate. Your dog must learn that as the alpha of the pack you eat first and that your dog can only eat after you are finished with your meal. He should be trained to eat out of his bowl.

2. Train your dog to sleep in his bed, not yours. You need to set boundaries, and by doing so you will train your dog that it must obey you the alpha.

3. When trying to house break your dog never allow him to chew on your belongings. Be sure to pick up things off the floor until he is housebroken and he has been taught not to chew on any thing that is not his! You must discourage these behaviors.

4. You should never hit your dog when he misbehaves. You can put your hands on your dog, if you do it with confidence and authority. You should also use the tone of your voice and a collar/leash as in collar shake, a leash correction, to teach and make corrections. Do it quickly and with authority. Then when the dog is able do exactly what you want then immediately give him a hug. That is the alpha way.

5. Make sure that your dog gets plenty of exercise. This can include playing ball with your dog, since even this should help your dog deal with his pent-up energy.

6. Don't permit your dog to jump on you or your guests. People may think it is cute when your dog is a puppy, but not when he gets bigger. Practice with your dog using a collar and leash and try to set up situations where you have someone ring your doorbell and watch how your dog reacts when they enter. Using a sharp correction tone command your dog to "sit" when any one enters the house. When the dog successfully obeys your command, be sure to praise him.
