The Importance Of Dog Training 2012

Most people who own a dog are going to look into the possibility of training them at some point or another. Training your dog can not only make them a responsible and enjoyable part of the family, it also has the ability to save their life. For example, if your dog happens to get out of the yard and is heading towards danger, a simple call to retrieve them to your location is all it will take if they were trained properly. What are some of the other benefits that you may see when your dog is trained properly?

First of all, for the purpose of this article, I'm going to be discussing basic obedience training. Although there are specific types of training that can be done for your animal, these are dealing with the basic commands of sit, down, stay and come. If you want to take it further than that, you may want to look for a qualified Walnut Creek dog trainer or an Oakland dog training class where you can take the dog for further instructions. Some of those classes can also be personalized and the trainer will come to your home to give further instructions as well.

One of the commands that your dog is going to learn before anything else is how to sit when you tell it to do so. Although this may seem like somewhat of a trivial command, there are many cases when it is going to come in handy if your dog knows how to do it properly. An example of this would be if you are feeding your dog and it was overly excited about the prospect of eating. Although there certainly is nothing wrong with your dog being happy about getting some food, it would be wrong if they were to spill the dish or to continually get in your way while you're trying to feed them. If you can tell them to sit, and they will actually do it, it will make it much more pleasant for both of you.

The stay command is also a very important command for your dog to learn. When you tell your dog to stay, it should remain in the position where it is for an extended amount of time. In fact, a properly trained dog will not break that position until you give it the signal to release it. This can have obvious benefits, such as keeping your dog from crowding the door when somebody has rung the doorbell. It may also have other benefits as well, however, including providing some discipline for your dog if necessary. When you put a dog on a sit stay or an extended down stay, it can help to teach them a lesson without being overly disciplinary.

Training a dog is something that is not only going to take place now, it can benefit you throughout your entire lifetime. It helps to bring the two of you closer together and it not only teaches them discipline, it helps to teach you discipline as you are doing it.
