Dog Clipping for Health and Good Looks in Your Dog

It is not only people who need to have their hair cut and washed; so do dogs. Dog clipping takes care of your dogs coat to keep out all those burs and knots, but a lot depends on the type of dog you have and the type of hair the dog breed usually has. Dogs with long, thick coats will need more grooming than short-haired breeds.

The best scenario is to start you puppy getting used to grooming when you first bring it home. Carry out the motions of grooming and clipping even though you are not actually doing anything. For instance, play with your puppy's toes and ears and get it used to the kind of noises it will encounter when being clipped. Buzzing, clicking noises need not scare your dog and they won't if you let it hear them close up from puppyhood.

When you hold a puppy on your lap for a cuddle, it is easy enough to use a brush over its body. You can even open its mouth with your fingers just to get it used to having inspections at the vets. This is all part of socializing your pet and getting it used to interacting with humans and accepting all that will need to be done to keep it healthy and in good condition over its lifetime.

When you train a dog in this way you will have very little trouble with it when bath or dog grooming time comes around. And when you need to take it to the vet, the visit will be much more pleasant for both the dog and the vet. Even if you get an older dog you can do things like this with it, once it has learned to trust and like you. Never scare a dog with sudden noises, but get them used to it gradually. For instance, you can have them in the same room with you while you use the hair dryer on yourself and they will then become used to such a noise.

Dog wash and grooming is not always easy and sometimes you just don't know where to start. However, it must be done to keep your dog looking and feeling nice and for its health as well. Older dogs that do not exercise as much as younger ones will always need their nails trimming, otherwise they will grow much too long and cause the dog pain when it walks.

If you dread washing or clipping your dog, you can get professionals in to do it for you. Dogs nearly all love going in the hydrobath and they soon get used to their carer coming around to clip their nails and trim their coat.
