Dog Clothes-The Ins and Outs

28 17:01:31

The phenomenon of dog clothing has hit America full force. Last year, our nation spent about 34 billion dollars on pet supplies! The industry is booming, and there’s a chance for businesses small and large to turn a tidy profit.

However, “dog clothes fever” hasn’t yet hit everyone, and there are some that don’t quite understand the concept of clothing dogs. Many are also wondering if the whole industry is one big fad that will pass away in a few years. It’s too early in the game to answer all these questions, but what is for certain is that even though dog clothing is popular because it’s so darn cute, it actually is functional and useful for dogs.

Let’s face it, dog clothes are adorable. Everyone’s faces light up when a little Chihuahua or Yorkie struts by in a cute little dog coat or sweater. Owners love to look at their babies dressed up and they love the attention it brings. So, the purpose of dog clothing could be seen in many cases as purely aesthetic. Another example is summer dog clothes. Dogs don’t need help staying warm during summer unless they’re like my perpetually cold and shivering Chi-chi. So, the only purpose those dog shirts seen at the beach and the park serve is to make people happy. This is not to say that it’s wrong. On the contrary, think about how many products we buy everyday with the sole purpose of making us happy, so don’t be so quick to judge that dog clothes are frivolous and useless.

There are some dog clothes that serve important functions. For example, during the long winter months, a dog’s natural coat is sometimes not enough protection from bitter cold. This is when it’s great to have a dog sweater or dog coat to wrap them up in before going on a walk. For the smaller breeds that have a hard time holding in heat, it’s nice to clothe them even when they’re inside. Other clothing like dog boots also help when the sidewalks and streets have been salted or sprayed with de-icing chemicals. It can be very painful and even harmful if your little baby gets these things in their paws. One thing is for certain, whether they’re fashionable or functional, dog clothes are here to stay.
