The Boston Terrier dog breed is sometimes called the Boston Bull. This is a well muscled dog, that is compact in size. The body is square an appearance and is also a short. They have a square looking head, that is in proportion to the body. With the deep and wide short muzzle, that is in balance with the head. Their noses is always black. Their bite is even or overshot slightly. This gives the muzzle the square look. They have large round and dark eyes, these are wide, set. The ears can be cropped, or left naturally, and are small. With straight limbs and good muscular body, they are a sturdy dog. They have a broad chest. Their tail is low set, is short and can be either straight or screw shaped. The tail is never docked. Their coach is short and fine, with colours that are white, brittle and seal, also black-and-white, with some puppies being born, brown and white. If wishing to show your dog white should cover the chest, muzzle and have a band around the neck. And a white blaze between, but not touching the eyes.

History: This is a fighting dog breed, coming from the Bull and terrier types. These cheeky little dogs were originally pit fighters. They've come from Boston, Massachusetts. This is one of the few breeds that have been developed in the USA. This dog is only a terrier in name. This breed has mellowed over time from its original fighting dog era. This dog is commonly referred to as the "American gentleman ". They can range in temperament from those eager to please their owner to a more stubborn dog. This breed is not considered by the American kennel club to be a terrier. That is part of the non sporting group.

Temperament: This is a very intelligent dog. If given the right amounts of mental and physical exercise you get the best from this breed. Without the proper amount of exercise, they can become highly strung and can develop small dog syndrome causing behaviour issues. This is not a difficult dog to train, but consistency is the key. This dog needs good strong leadership and the owner to be the alpha.

Health issues: This breed being short faced dogs may have breathing difficulties, When suffering from stress, or exertion in hot weather. They may suffer from snoring or drooling. They can also have hearts and skin tumours, deafness, and can be prone to eye problems.

Grooming: This is a short- haired dog that is relatively easy to groom. This dog only needs to have its face wiped daily. Checking ears and eyes as a daily routine is recommended. The short hair needs combing or brushing twice weekly at the very least. Bathing only then it is really required. This will leave the dog's natural oils to protect the coat.

Living conditions: This breed are great for apartments as they are relatively inactive indoors. They can even cope without a garden, providing you meet all the needs they have with exercise. This dog is sensitive to weather extremes.
