How to Train Your Guinea Pig. A guinea pig is a popular pet choice for kids. They require children to be responsible about caring for their pet on a manageable level. Guinea pigs can be trained with basic instructions.

Things Needed

• Treats
• Small litter box
• Leash

Step 1

Designate one part of her cage the "bathroom" by placing a small litter box there.

Step 2

Place some of your pet's waste into the litter box to encourage him to follow the scent and go in that one place.

Step 3

Reward your guinea pig with a small treat when she goes in the litter box.

Step 4

Expand litter-box training by placing the litter box on the floor when your guinea pig is allowed free time.

Step 5

Have plenty of treats on hand and be quick to reward good behavior while ignoring bad behavior.

• Use commercially marketed guinea pig food for treats.
