Feeding your Beta Fish

Today I am going to discuss feeding your betta fish, along with the different types of foods available.

Their foods come in 3 categories, live foods such as worms and shrimp. frozen foods that are mostly the same as live foods only frozen, and then there are dry foods that can still be freeze-dried versions Of the live foods or dry flake and pellet foods that are a Combination of worms, shrimp and other proteins that the betta's Like to eat.

If you are going to use frozen foods, make sure they are thawed and at room temperature before using them. As a rule, you want to feed your fish mostly a diet of the pellet food and then feed them either frozen or freeze-dried worms or shrimp as a special treat. I would recommend that you feed treats about once a week. Most of the pellet foods have all the nutritional value that the fish will need.

On how much to feed your fish, the rule of thumb is to feed as much it will eat in a 2 minutes. Remember, you need to remove any food that the fish does not eat in a few minutes, so an idea would be for you to sit there and to feed one or two pellets at a time for 2 minutes...then there will be no uneaten food to clean up.

Bettas can be finicky, so don't be alarmed if your fish doesn't eat the food on a particular day, especially when you first get them. It might take up to a week before they gives in and eat. Don't worry, he won't starved in that time period. Just remove any food particles uneaten after 3 minutes, and then try again the next day.

It is best to try to feeding your fish at the same time every day. This gives them into a routine. After a while you will swear they're wearing a wristwatch because they will start wagging their tail and coming to the surface at the appointed feeding time. If you feed your fish high quality food and occasionally give him or her a special treat, this will no doubt improve the quality of your fishes' life and keep them healthy and happy.
